Zahutyn is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Zagórz, within Sanok County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, in south-eastern Poland, and it was here that Michal Keller was born in 1911. It's approximately 313km from Warsaw.
It was located in an area that straddled the current border of Poland and the Ukraine, previously known as Galicia. In the 18th century, areas that later became part of Poland such as the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, became part of Galicia.
Galicians were typically a mix of all sorts - Germans, Poles, Ukrainians, and others - hence Michal's German surname (Keller meaning 'cellar' or 'basement'). One of the major cities of Galicia was Sanok, located very close to Zahutyn.
Not a lot of information is known - perhaps another destination to add to my Poland 2018 trip.
